Lent Season
​
-The word Lent means "Spring"
​
-Lent Season last for 40 days (we do not count Sundays as part of Lent).
​
-Lent begins on Ash Wednesday until Holy Thursday.
​
-The 3 components (pillars) of Lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Almsgiving is helping the poor with food, money or any assistance.
​
-The color of Lent Season is purple. Purple color represents repentance.
​
-On Ash Wednesday we receive ashes on our forehead. The ashes comes from Palm tree leaves mixed with oil.
​
-Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday and ending on Holy Saturday, (Easter Vigil)
​
-During Holy Week, on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday, these three days is referred to as Triduum.
​
Holy Thursday is about Jesus institutes the Eucharist, his body and blood.
Good Friday is about the death of Jesus on the cross.
Holy Saturday or Easter Vigil is Jesus resurrection from the tomb.
​
During Lent Season, you are required to Abstinence from Meat and or Fasting.
​
Fasting means you are eating one full meal, two light meals, but the two light meals cannot equal
to the one full meal with no snacks between meals. Fasting age requirement is 18 years to 59 years old.
​
Abstinence of Meat means no meat. No pork, beef, chicken, or any meat. You can eat eggs, tuna, seafood or any type of fish for the day. Abstinence from Meat age requirement is 14 years and older.
​
Fasting and Abstain from Meat occurs on two days during Lent. You must do both of these on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
​
All other Fridays, only Abstain from Meat.
​
*You are also required to go to confession during the Lent Season. It must be done before Easter Sunday.
